NEWS | February 2010

Dear Customers and Friends,

It seems each year we make this request earlier and earlier, but it is time to start thinking about spring and getting the boats back in the water. I realize this may be the last thing on your mind in the middle of another New England winter.  Here at the yard we have been very busy with winter work. We have managed to find plenty to keep us busy in the off-season and are looking forward to launching.

We have changed our spring commissioning form this season. Over the years we have tried to come up with spring and fall forms that cover all the boats in the yard, to make it easier for us to better serve you. This has been successful in most cases. We do realize some customers have questions about what jobs they need to be have done. In an effort to better meet the needs of our customers we would like to invite you to call and we will help you over the phone.

You can also schedule a visit with Skip or Chris so that we can meet with you on your boat and create a spring and fall maintenance schedule for your boat. This should provide our customers with a better understanding of what is involved in preparing your boat for the season. This information will then go into file for your boat and available for us and for you to review and update as needed.

We encourage all of our customers to come in and check out the ongoing projects in the yard. Raka is spending her third winter in the back of the lower shed. This year we have completed replacing 80 or so broken frames, replaced 2 floor timbers, removed the cockpit and decks for replacement with a teak deck. We will be displaying Raka at this years Wooden Boat Show in Mystic, CT. in June.

Narada is lying alongside Raka in the shed. Narada is having her cockpit sole replaced. Over the years the plywood under the binnacle had started to deteriorate. This allowed the binnacle to rock back and forth presenting a safety concern. To improve the installation of the binnacle we will be adding a stainless steel bracket under the cockpit sole to bolt to. Along with the teak over plywood sole, we will be adding ventilation in the cockpit to keep the boat drier, and doing some minor improvement to systems.

We look forward to hearing from you and a great 2010 season ahead.
